School Governance at Prospect Hill Junior School

We don’t have to have detailed knowledge of education issues but we know how a joint effort by pupils, parents and schools can make a difference to a child’s education. The Governing Body is one way by which this partnership is promoted.

On the Governing Body are parents, staff, local authority nominated persons, representatives from the community and the Head Teacher.

In all types of schools, governing bodies should have a strong focus on three core strategic functions:

a.  Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic decision;

b.  Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils; and

c.  Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Governors make sure that information regarding the work of the school and the Governing Body is available for the parents, the Local Authority and Ofsted.
