Foundational Knowledge
At Prospect Hill Junior School, we recognise that children arrive in Key Stage 2 with different levels of knowledge and experience. Some children may not yet have fully secured the foundational knowledge and skills they need to confidently access all areas of the curriculum.
To support every child, we have developed a Foundational Knowledge Framework. This helps us identify and address gaps in learning while maintaining high expectations for all. It also provides opportunities for children who have already secured these foundations to apply, extend and transfer their knowledge and skills in increasingly challenging contexts.
Throughout the school week, children take part in planned sessions where they can revisit, practise and develop their foundational knowledge as part of their whole-class learning. Where needed, this is supported by additional small-group or one-to-one intervention.
Our aim is simple: to ensure that every child has the secure foundations they need to succeed, while continuing to be challenged and supported to achieve their full potential.
