Summer Term
Understanding our influence on the future
Term 3
In the Summer term, the school focus is on understanding our influence on the future. This has a more scientific and environmental focus: the importance of plants and trees (and the issue of deforestation), keeping our seas and oceans clean and considering the future of space exploration. The children are encouraged to consider their impact on the planet and how little changes in behaviour and attitude can make a positive difference.
One of our intentions is that children become active learners with enquiring minds. We have established an enquiry based approach across school - using ‘Big Questions’ to start every lesson. Every topic title is now in the form of a question (such as “Were the Ancient Greeks driven by power or religious beliefs?”) to focus the children on key concepts. Our aim is that by the end of a term, children should be able to answer these questions and thereby demonstrate their learning.
